Those pilots have tons of Douglas time.

Watch them bleed off excess speed and correct for crosswind over the trees, and then dive for the threshold but with enough speed left for a perfect flair and touchdown.

Gives me a thrill to watch such a perfectly-controlled approach and landing – on a dirt strip. It’s poetry in motion. But ya gotta be an aviation nut to really appreciate that.

Truly masterful. That landing was perfect on the worst possible runway.
The pilots were Johan van den Berg and Laurie Raath both at the time from South African Airways and Flight Engineer Mike Mayers.

And see that guy on the excavator? He’s the control tower!
