A Harrier plane pilot who discovered the nose gear of his plane had jammed was forced to find another way of touching down – so he landed his plane on a stool.

‘We had to figure out how do I get the plane back on the deck safely with only three landing gears,’ explained Captain Mahoney. ‘It was then that he told me about the stool that was built specifically for this reason.’

‘At 20ft I couldn’t see the stool,’ he admitted. ‘I didn’t even know it was there. I remember looking for it and thinking “Oh boy, this is going to get interesting”.’ But he did it, letting the Harrier plane gradually drop until it landed… on the stool.
