Ever wonder how a sky banner airplane gets in the sky? Turns out it’s a bit more complicated than just taking off with a banner attached to the airplane.
The airplane dragging the text banner behind it does not take off with the banner attached.
An airplane flies with a grappling hook or tail hook and picks up the banner with a high speed low altitude pass. Once the banner is hooked, the airplane climbs rapidly to bring it into the sky. This is hand flown, real pilot stuff.
They don’t land with it either. They drop it before landing.
