#1: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision.
#2: Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to South to avoid a collision.
#1: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.
#2: No. I say again, you divert YOUR course.
#1. THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER ENTERPRISE, WE ARE A LARGE WARSHIP OF THE US NAVY. DIVERT YOUR COURSE NOW!
#2. This is a lighthouse. Your call.
That one’s authentic.
The lignthouse in question was in Canada, and the captain of the US carrier, was sure he was talking to a lowly Canadian Coast Guard ship and requested it change course.
I really like that Joke about the ENTERPRISE Aircraft Carrier!!!!
Lovely story but sadly untrue. I seen a number of versions over the years. The ship has variously been Enterprise, Intrepid, Ark Royal or even a completely ficticious name. The lighthouse has also been around – Canada, Ireland, California etc. Just remember that radar or not they do mark these things on charts.
