An experienced Lancaster pilot was posted to a Coastal Command unit flying Sunderland Flying Boats.

On his conversion to type, the squadron QFI gently reminded his student that there was no need to fly an approach to the strip as there was plenty of water in the bay beside the airfield.

Following the closedown procedure, the student thanked his QFI for the timely reminder that he was actually flying a flying boat, opened the hatch, and promptly stepped into the sea!
