It looks like this plane is having a hard time NOT going supersonic

As a teen I was rubber-necking the NH coast. Passing near Pease AFB I notified the tower I was skirting the CZ edge. A few minutes later tower called to alert me to “Departing traffic.” I looked barely in time to see a F104 passing just ahead and above, and looked down into the cockpit of his wing-man going under my nose. i’ve no doubt they were having a little “Fun” at my expense. 3 pilots got stories to tell that day. Scrambling fighters to escort Russian bombers down to Cuba was common in those days. The timing was obviously… Read more »
