That one’s authentic.

The lignthouse in question was in Canada, and the captain of the US carrier, was sure he was talking to a lowly Canadian Coast Guard ship and requested it change course.

Lovely story but sadly untrue. I seen a number of versions over the years. The ship has variously been Enterprise, Intrepid, Ark Royal or even a completely ficticious name. The lighthouse has also been around – Canada, Ireland, California etc. Just remember that radar or not they do mark these things on charts.
